Introducing the next generation of AMG's celebrated Giro turntable, The Giro MK II. All critical components impacting sonic performance have been updated and improved, while maintaining the elegant minimalist design, compact form factor, and precision build quality of its predecessor. With improvements to the platter, bearing, motor, pulley, electronics, and armboard, the Giro MK II sets a new standard for performance in its price class.
KEY FEATURES
- 12lb rim-weighted POM platter, 40% heavier than the original, for improved speed stability and vibrational control
- Ultra-quiet Swiss-made 12v DC motor with smaller pulley for improved speed stability and increased dynamics
- High-mass hydrodynamic lubricated bearing with redesigned two-tier sub-platter interface for better fit, improved mechanical efficiency, and quiet operation
- Larger, higher-mass armboard for better rigidity at the tonearm mount, and allowance for wider tonearm compatibility
- All of AMG's trademark features, including decoupled spindle/bearing structure, capacitive touch speed selection with built-in electronic speed adjustment, tonearm with patented dual-pivot bearing, AMG Reflex Clamp, and optional linear power supply upgrade
9W2 STANDARD TONEARMS
All AMG Tonearms feature patented dual-pivot bearings, which use spring steel tension rods in the vertical plane, a design invented and patented by company founder Werner Roeschlau and based off of similar designs found in helicopter rotors. This offers ultra-low friction operation, while eliminating the possibility of any bearing chatter or play, as can sometimes occur on traditional gimbal bearings tonearms. AMG tonearms all feature aluminum arm tubes, adjustable azimuth and VTA, magnetic anti-skate, and multi-stranded copper wire wound in-house. They come in both 9” and 12” lengths, and can be purchased with SME or Linn mounting adapters for use with other turntable brands.
9WT TURBO TONEARMS
AMG’s Turbo tonearms are an upgrade over the standard 9W2 and 12J2 tonearms. These arms have a larger, more massive bearing housing, which increases the overall efficiency of the bearing while further reducing friction and improving resonance control. They also feature thumb-screws built-in for all adjustments, so no tools are necessary to dial in your tonearm. Turbo arms also come with a 2-piece adjustable headshell plate and alignment tool. Trade-in options are available for customers who wish to upgrade from the standard to the Turbo tonearms.

Tech Specs
MOTOR
- Precision Swiss-made 24v DC motor
- Motor decoupled and isolated from plinth
- In-house machined flywheel-weighted pulley as on Viella V12
ELECTRONIC CONTROLS
- 33.3 and 45 rpm speeds with electronic on/off
- Backlit capacitive buttons change color with function
- Sophisticated circuit board for speed regulation and adjustment
PLATTER
- 40mm thick platter CNC machined from Polyoxymethylene or POM (also known as Delrin®),
a high-tech synthetic - POM provides an ideal mechanical impedance match to vinyl eliminating the need for a platter mat
- Manufactured using a special “SMARTEST” process for greater precision, cost-effectiveness,
and high finish quality - Platter surface machined for record label and bead to optimize coupling the LP record with AMG clamp
-
De-coupled record spindle further isolates stylus in the groove from extraneous vibration
PLATTER BEARING
- Hydrodynamically lubricated radial 16mm axle with PFTE thrust pad and integral flywheel
- Scaled version Viella V12 platter bearing
- Bearing housing CNC machined from Polyoxymethylene or POM (also known as Delrin®) providing a non-resonant enclosure
- Bearing housing features fixed spike coupler for mechanical grounding and reduced noise floor
BEARING
- Patented dual-pivot bearing
- Vertical bearing, similar to a technique used in the rotor heads of helicopters
- Uses two .5mm thick “spring steel wires,” allowing fine azimuth adjustment while eliminating bearing play
- Horizontal axle is a hardened tool steel, precision ground to a backlash-free fit with a needle roller bearing combined with a captured multi-ball bearing
- It is extremely precise and maintenance free
ARMWAND
- Aircraft quality
- Anodized aluminum tube for resonance control
- Nine gram effective mass
COUNTERWEIGHT
- 2-piece with Teflon decoupled sleeve
COPPER INTERNAL WIRING
- Multi-strand high-purity copper
MAGNETIC ANTI-SKATING
- Decoupled via ring magnet and t-bar magnets
- Magnetic fields isolated in our patented bearing housing
VTA
- Precision locking system for easy adjustment
TERMINATION
- Five-pin DIN (SME) connector on base of tonearm for connection with straight DIN (SME) tonearm cable as manufactured by AMG and other leading cable companies
- Tonearm cable may be terminated with either single-ended RCA or balanced XLR connectors
PLINTH
- 33mm thick aircraft-grade aluminum CNC machined in-house
- 33 and 45 RPM speed controlled via backlit capacitive buttons
- Three leveling feet, adjustable from top side of the plinth
- Anodized black finish
